Birth records in Idaho, like birth records in many other states, are kept by a government agency, in this case the Idaho Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics. Idaho has records dating back to July 1911.

In the state of Idaho, all birth records are considered confidential for 100 years after the event, although family members and others with a legal interest are permitted to request copies. Idaho Code Title 39, Chapter 2 outlines who can and cannot receive copies of birth records in Idaho, and those with specific details should search out this legislation.

Unfortunately, unlike in some other states, Idaho does not offer walk-in or phone service for records retrieval. Requests made directly to the Bureau of Vital Records can only be made in writing. However, it may still be possible to find the Idaho birth records you need by using an internet search site dedicated to public records research.

Idaho birth certificates are available in two different versions for two different prices. The computer generated copy is $13.00, and the photo-static copy is $18.00. Records for births in Idaho are available from 1911 to now, with some being available as far back as 1907. When you make your request you may pay the fee by either money order or personal check. Records are confidential for up to 100 years after birth, so you may need to prove relationship or eligibility. You will have to provide a copy of both sides of your driver's license or two other forms of ID in order to be approved to receive a copy.
