Maine birth records, like those from other states, can be very important but also somewhat difficult to find. In Maine, the first thing to determine when trying to find birth records is the date of the birth that you're searching for.
Birth records from 1892 to 1922, and some from earlier, are stored at the Maine State Archives, which can fill requests for certified and uncertified copies. For records from 1923 to the present, requests should be forwarded to the Maine Office of Vital Statistics.
If this seems somewhat confusing, there may be an easier way to get the facts that you need about Maine birth records. Many Maine birth records are available online through various databases. One great way to search quickly is to use an online public records finder-a website dedicated to finding public records related information.
