There are only a few original counties which formed California, and one of them is Santa Clara County. This county started with the English explorer Sir Francis Drake, who landed in the San Francisco Bay Area and who claimed the area for his King and Queen in 1579. It was, however, two centuries before any settlers came to command the region. After the war between the United States and Mexico, the United States took control of California and in 1852 Santa Clara County was formed and was named after Mission Santa Clara.
The area focused mostly on agriculture until the 1950’s, when it started to transition into becoming the technological center that it is today. In 1971 the Silicon Valley was formed, directly in Santa Clara County, and has now become the home of popular computing giants such as Hewlett Packard, Yahoo, Google, Apple, and many more. The county has fifteen incorporated cities and towns, including San Jose, Pala Alto, and, of course, Santa Clara city. Those who are looking for information that pertains to any of the incorporated towns and cities can find that information at the county clerk’s office. Fees do apply to all searches, whether you use an online interface or you appear in person.
