The great state of Kentucky is known now mostly for the Kentucky Derby, but it has a very long history that goes along with it. In 1780, Jefferson County was formed and was one fo the first three counties that came from the original county which was known as Kentucky County, which was actually a part of Virginia at the time. The county was named after the famous Thomas Jefferson, who was, at the time, the governor of Virginia.
The area, however, became rife with strife and a bunch of other troubles, as many times they had to fight off fires, and floods, and even an Indian Massacre or two, with the last massacre being known as the famous Chenoweth Massacre which happened in 1789. Those who are looking for Jefferson County public records, however, are in luck, as the people who lived during those times kept excellent records, and it’s possible to find records from hundreds of years ago located safe within the walls of the Jefferson County Clerk who happens to be located on 527 West Jefferson Street, directly in the middle of the county seat, which is also the largest city in the county, Louisville, KY.
