Maryland is a tricky area, as many people believe that Washington, D.C., which is in Maryland, is its own state. It is actually not. The state of Maryland is split up into a number of different counties, and while D.C. is part of Maryland, it is its own area as well. The wealthiest county in the state, however, is actually Prince George's County. This county was named after the brother of King Christian V who was from both Denmark and Norway. His name was Prince George of Denmark and he eventually married Queen Anne of Great Britain, and many people refer to this as P.G. County by many of the people who live there.
The area was created in 1696 from Calvert and Charles County. Parts of that county were actually deeded over to the District of Columbia, or D.C., and, interestingly enough, John Wilkes Booth made his escape through the county after he shot President Abraham Lincoln, which is a very strange claim to fame. Those who are looking for information for Prince George's County public records can likely find the information that they’re looking for at Prince George's County Clerk of the Circuit Court, Land Records Division 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive, Room L65, in Upper Marlboro.
