Named for the French explorer Father Louis Hennepin, Hennepin County, Minnesota, is known to be the most populous one in the entire state. The Territorial Legislature initially formally incorporated the area in 1852, using this particular name because of the father’s influence and the part he played in naming other areas, such as St. Anthony Falls and keeping records of the earlier history of the state as a whole and other areas in that part of the world. This area is considered to be the wealthiest county in Minnesota. As a matter of fact, it is also considered one of the top 100 counties in the United States as far as wealth is concerned. There are two protected areas that take up part of the area as a whole: the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge and the Mississippi National River and Recreation area.
