The small state of New Jersey may be tiny, but it has a huge population. One county, Bergen County, has close to a million people living in the small area, and is listed as one of the highest income counties in the United States. The area was originally owned and enjoyed by Native Americans, most particularly a group of Native Americans known as the Lenape group. There are still, today, some Native Americans which make this area home. It was, however, eventually settled by the Dutch in the 1600’s, and in 1660 the area of Bergen was settled making it on of the first European settlements in New Jersey.
Many people are interested in finding information about their ancestors, and a lot of it can be found at the Bergen County public records office. It is there that you can find birth records, death records, and records about marriages and divorces, making it easy to trace back your family history, or to find someone that you have been looking for. In Bergen County, the place to go to is the Bergen County Clerk, at One Bergen County Plaza in Hackensack, New Jersey, which is the main city in this county.
