It surprises many to learn that there is a huge history behind one of the smallest states in the nation. New Jersey hides many things, including its history and all of the people who once lived in the area. Take, for instance, the story of Hudson County. This area was once the home of the Lenape Indians, who migrated and who lived in this area only once a year. It is believed that they had contact with Europeans. Then, around 1609, a man known as Henry Hudson ventured down the river and, even though he did not settle there, paved the way for many people to settle in the area.
About seventy years later the Treaty of Westminster was finished and it allowed Hudson County to become part of the British colony which was now known as East Jersey. A bit of switching went on until, about two hundred years later, the area was officially given its own name. Now many people settle in this area, and in Jersey City, the county seat, specifically. Those who are looking for Hudson County public records can find what they are seeking at the Brennan Court House Building on 583 Newark Avenue in Jersey City.
