Erie County, New York Public Records
To begin, add a county public record or view a list of county record locations and resources for Erie county records and the state of New York.
Erie County public records indicate that when counties were initially established in New York, Erie was considered Indian territory, and was therefore not incorporated into the state as a whole. In 1800, however, the Holland Land Company began settling the area, thus eliminating Native American claims to the land. By 1821, the county itself was finally created, and these days, it plays home to just under a million residents. Many of those are families, and as a result, there are almost thirty school districts within the boundaries.
Part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metro area, there is much to do and see here. There are two Indian reservations within the 1,044 square miles of land as well as nine different state parks. The Buffalo Bills football team calls this county home as does the Buffalo Sabres hockey organization, the Bandits (a Lacrosse team), and a minor league baseball team and American Basketball Association team. America’s Fair, the second largest in the area, is held here each August, and you can also find a zoo and a botanical garden in the area. There are a number of museums here as well including the well-known Albright-Knox Art Gallery, a science museum, and a history museum.
