Bexar County is located in the south central section of Texas. This area was created in 1836 and, at the time it was created, encompassed almost the entire western area of what was known at the time as the Republic of Texas. It was named after San Antonio de Bexar, which was the first civil government that was established in the Spanish section of Texas at the time that Bexar County was created.
