In 1792, the first European settlers were found around Snohomish County in Washington. Until then it had only been Native American people who lived near the rivers and who used them to help transport things from place to place and shore to shore. Captain George Vancouver, however, changed all that when he landed near Everett, Washington, and named the entire area for Great Britain. It was not until the 1890’s, however, when the railway, known as the Great Northern Railway, brought tons of people and businesses into the area, which helped it to grow and to become what it is today.
Even though it is located in the remote area of Washington, Snohomish County is one of the fastest areas in the United States, thanks to the technological industries which make their homes there as well as to the manufacturers who live there as well. There are a number of people who may be able to trace their ancestors back to this area, or even back to the original settlers! Those who are looking for the Snohomish county public records may want to start their search at the Snohomish County Auditor 1st Floor Admin. East 3000 Rockefeller Ave., in Everett, WA.
