Arkansas Court Records
Accessing Arkansas Court Records
There are various types of courts in Arkansas. They include Circuit courts, Chancery courts, Courts of Common Pleas, County courts, and the Justice of the Peace courts. Original court records are kept by the Clerks in the county court houses. It is the Family History Library that keeps copies of these records from the conception of a county to about 1900. You will find some records right up to the 1970s.
Carrying out a Search
Generally you will not require anyone's authorization to carry out a search. You can carry out the search entirely on your own. All you must be aware of is the person's name on whom you want to search, the case number as assigned by the court and perhaps the city of residence for that person, as well. As long as you have this information, you can perform any investigation you want.
There are two types of searches you can perform. The first is the online search for which, you must visit the court website of Arkansas. You can search here for a fee. There are a few private websites too that can help you.
The second option is the physical search. Here, you will need to visit the court house in person and make an application to the Clerk's office. You can also apply over the telephone or send your application through the mail.
