In the state of Georgia, residents have statutory rights to examine a substantial number of Georgia court records. These statutory rights are explicitly stated in the Open Records Act (Title 50, Chapter 18, Article 4, section 70(b) of the Georgia Annotated Code.
While many states only provide access to official residents, Georgia's Attorney General previously released an opinion stating that he felt that non-residents should also be given limited access to Georgia court records. Even if you are not a citizen, there is a reasonably good chance that you will be able to view and examine some court records of Georgia.
The specific term of ?public records"is rather broadly defined and in fact includes any maps, written documents, books, photographs, tapes, and electronic information. All pertinent information of this nature can be found in the court records of Georgia. Any government organization may choose to deny access to requested documents if there is an exemption listed in any state statutes.
