As of July 1, 1996, Iowa court records related to criminal cases and which contain any criminal history information were made available residents of the state. While many court records of Iowa are managed by the respective courts with specific jurisdiction, the Division of Criminal Investigation is the primary database in which all criminal history information pertaining to the state of Iowa.
A small fee is required in order to retrieve any criminal history information or Iowa court records. However, statewide criminal history record checks can only be performed by the Division of Criminal Investigation which has full discretion in regards to the decision to fulfill any request from non-criminal justice organizations or agencies.
You may request to be sent the necessary forms needed for a record check by calling (515) 725-6066. These forms pertain to criminal records only. If you would like to request copies of any specific court records of Iowa then you will need to contact the specific court of jurisdiction.
