New Jersey Court Records
To begin, add a court record or view a list of locations and resources for New Jersey court records.
There is an existing presumption that all New Jersey court records are openly available and subject to public inspection. In fitting with the breadth and overall intent of the New Jersey constitution and state code, the right of public access to the court records of New Jersey must also be met with a balanced process which protects the interests of those involved.
Unless it is otherwise specifically ordered by the court, whether district or circuit level, certain categories of cases, documents and other New Jersey court records will not be made available to the general public.
Before any of the court records of New Jersey are sealed, a court must order them sealed at which point those records will not be open to viewing by the public unless an additional court order effectively decides to re-open those once sealed records. Case records which have been sealed are kept in a separate division of court files which can only be accessed by the appropriate staff.
