Access to New York State Court Information
In most states, court records are considered public information. To aid the general public in accessing available court records, many states have set up an online database system where individuals can search for specific case or court record information. The New York State Unified Court System has set up a website called "WebCivil Supreme" for anyone wishing to access Civil Supreme Court records in all 62 counties of New York.
How to Search for Court Records
WebCivil Supreme allows you to easily search for court records based on a number of criteria. You can search by case index number, name of Plaintiff or Defendant, attorney name, or by justice name. You may also view court calendar information and perform a search for published decision documents.
Are All New York Court Records Available Online?
All Civil Supreme Court cases are updated at least daily from all 62 counties onto the WebCivil Supreme online database. However, cases that have been ordered sealed, or are filed under Article 81 of the Mental Hygiene law, are not available online.
All New York court records from all 62 counties have been added to the online system since 2002. WebCivil Supreme contains limited caseload records from certain counties as far back as 1979. You will need to check with the court directly if your court record is older and is not available online.
