South Carolina court records are available to the general public in accordance with the laws of the South Carolina and the operating rules of each individual court house. All records are available to the public except for those which have been officially deemed exempt. The court records of South Carolina contain confidential information and although many case files are available, there are a select few which are not.

Aside from specific case files which cannot be viewed by the public, certain aspects within public files are omitted in order to meet state guidelines pertaining to the governing of South Carolina court records.

The court records of South Carolina are official documents which have are maintained at the expense of each individual courthouse. It is at their discretion whether or not to release specific case files to the general public.
