As an open records state, criminal records in Colorado are publicly available. The Identification Unite of the CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation) serves the public just as it supports law enforcement in the state. CBI maintains and keeps up-to-date all information in the Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC), a database that stores all Colorado criminal records that are fingerprint-based.
Criminal records in Colorado while public may not be used 'by any person for the purpose of soliciting business for pecuniary gain'. In order to gain access to Colorado criminal records, a person must first sign a statement that verifies that the individual will not use the records for this purpose, otherwise the official custodian of records will deny that individual access to the requested records.
Colorado criminal records and arrest records are now available in electronic format, but just as with the CCIC, records that are not fingerprint-based are not included.
