Locating Iowa Criminal Records
Iowa’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), part of the Department of Public Safety, oversees the dissemination of Iowa criminal records. Iowa criminal records can be obtained with a $13 fee when mailing in a form for a mailed response, or with a $15 fee, payable only by credit or debit card, for a faxed in request with a faxed response.
Who Can Obtain Iowa Criminal Records?
Criminal records can be obtained by the general public, as well as law enforcement agencies by requesting the information. A name-based search is the only method offered to the general public.
Challenging a Criminal Record
If you wish to challenge any part of your Iowa criminal record, either submit your requested change in writing to the Division of Criminal Investigation or go in person to the DCI office to dispute the record in question.
