Accessing Massachusetts Criminal Records
In Massachusetts, the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Services controls the criminal records for the state. They only accept request forms for criminal records by mail, and for individuals requesting the records, the form must be notarized, and a certified check or money order for $25 must accompany the request. A self-addressed stamped envelope must also accompany any request.
Who Has Rights to Obtain Massachusetts Criminal Records?
Massachusetts allows anyone to access public criminal records, meaning the general public will only access conviction records. Agencies must apply to CORI for permission to request Massachusetts criminal records and background checks.
Changing a Criminal Record
Individuals who request a criminal record or get a copy from an employer who requested one may review it for accuracy. If you find a mistake on your personal record, contact CORI, and they will provide assistance in amending the mistake.
