When seeking Massachusetts criminal records, one need look no further than the Massachusetts Criminal History Systems Board. The mission of the CHSB as stated on their web site is as follows: "To reduce criminal and terrorist activities by providing the ability to share timely and relevant criminal justice information and services to law enforcement, criminal justice, non-criminal justice entities, and the general public."
The Board was created in 1972 as required by the Criminal Offender Record Information Act (CORI) and serves to maintain the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) as well as to process and disseminate criminal records in Massachusetts for non-criminal justice entities.
Per legislation made effective July 1, 2004 that amended M.G.L.c.6, 172A, the fees for CORI requests have been amended. Check with the CHSB for the applicable fees when requesting criminal records in Massachusetts. Fees are currently between $15 and $30 depending on the requesting individual or agency.
