Locating Minnesota Criminal Records
In 2008, the Minnesota CJIS and CriMNet reorganized and formed the Minnesota Justice Information Services (MJIS) to better serve the public and law enforcement agencies. MJIS operates an online database where name searches may be conducted for no charge. MJIS also has public terminals in their offices that allow people to access this information. To request a complete criminal record, visit the MJIS office in person and pay $8 processing fee.
Laws Governing Minnesota Criminal Records Access
Minnesota allows the general public access to all public criminal records, meaning only convictions will be listed. Individuals and authorized agencies may request complete criminal records.
Criminal Record Discrepancies
If an individual discerns a mistake on her personal criminal record, a written statement must be submitted, along with any supporting documentation, to MJIS, and that record will be flagged as under review until a resolution is reached.
