Montana, also known as the Big Sky Country, is a state that is comparable to none. The breathtaking view of the surroundings and being in the presence of beautiful mountains truly makes this state hard to beat. However, it does not mean that this state is impervious to crime. Anywhere you live, there are bound to be individuals who reside there that have had brushes with authorities and have criminal records. As a resident or business owner in Montana, it is your right to find out if those that are near you have criminal records. This is for your own safety and benefit; knowing can protect you.
There are a number of ways you can do a background check on your person of interest. One is by simply logging on to the Records Project (Montana) by clicking on the link. In there, you will see two portions on the page. On the top portion, it says that you can instantly search over 400,000 criminal records by typing in the name of the person you are doing a background check on. The results that will be shown upon making your search are public records that, even with certain limitations, can still be very helpful. However, if you need a more complete search, you might need to pay for it. This is why there is another link on the lower portion of the page.
The link will take you to the Montana Criminal History Database, which can help you out as well. If you aren't a member yet, you just need to click on the "start service" button under the public user portion. Like all background checks, you will have to enter information about the person you are looking for as well as placing in data about yourself. This is all standard procedure so there is nothing you have worry about. Once you are done, you will have to pay the $11.50 fee per record search. Then, the results will be shown on your screen which you can print out using a printer.
You can also conduct a manual search by mailing in a request letter to the Montana Criminal Records office. This will cost you less as the fee is only $10 per record search. In the letter, you must include the full name, date of birth and the social security number of the person you are doing a background check on. Other than that, you may also provide a fingerprint scan of the individual which you can obtain from a local law enforcement agency. The payment must be inside the letter in the form of cash or certified check. Do not forget that the letter must include a self-addressed stamped envelope as well.
