The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is the central portal for criminal records. It facilitates a name-based search. To run a criminal check, you need to send a Criminal History Information Request form, which is downloadable from the Bureau's website, to:
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
Tennessee Criminal History Information
901 R.S. Gass Blvd,
Nashville, TN, 37216
A $29 processing fee must be sent together with the request. You can pay either by cash, money order, cashier's check, personal check, or business check. Credit card payment is also accepted.
If the person being checked is found to have a criminal history, a history record will be sent to you.
If, however, the result of a criminal check proved to be inaccurate, you can dispute the result and send TBI a Criminal History Information Request form, along with a dispute letter and a $30 processing fee. TBI will compare the results and inform you whether the previous result was inaccurate or accurate.
Aside from providing information on a criminal history check, the TBI website also has information on TBI's Most Wanted. Mug shots and brief crime details of the offenders and reward information are posted on the website.
TBI also provides an updated list of missing Tennessee children. The website displays the latest pictures of the missing children and information surrounding their disappearances. Contact information of parents, guardians, and authorities is also provided.
Tennessee Sex Offender Registry is incorporated in the TBI website. The sex offender registry search requires last name, first name, city, country, and zip code of the sex offender. The website also has a sex offender locator.
Pictures of sex offenders at large and information are posted on the website. People who have any information on the sex offenders are encouraged to get in touch with TBI.
On the Meth Offender Registry Database, meanwhile, you can search for people with meth offenses. To begin the search, you need to supply county of offense and last name and first initial of the offender in the given fields. The result, however, should only be for informational purposes and should be further verified.
In addition, searches for felony offenders can be done through the Tennessee Felony Offender Information Lookup. This tool provides information on the previous and current offenders. Status of offenders is also provided. Information in the lookup tool originates from the Department of Correction and Board of Probation and Parole.
The lookup tool provides three search options. The first option involves search by name and race of the offender. The second option requires the offender's TOMIS ID, while the third option asks for the state ID number.
On the Department of Correction website, you can find a list of Tennessee escapees. Mug shots and information on the escape is provided on the website. A list of offenders on death row is also available.
