Oregon genealogy records are handled by the Oregon Department of Human Services, Public Health Division. Section 333-011-0006 of the Oregon Administrative Rules outlines the regulations and procedures the department must follow when dealing with vital records. Vital records are defined in the code as ?data derived from certificates and reports of birth, death, spontaneous fetal death, induced termination of pregnancy, marriage, dissolution of marriage and related reports".
There is a time restriction on the availability of genealogy records. Oregon adheres to a 100 year restricted period of access to birth records, and a 50 year restricted access period on all other records. During these restricted periods, only certain people can have access to records for any reason. While people may have almost unlimited access to their own records, only close blood relatives and legal representatives of the registrant may have access to the records of others. This includes any records needed for genealogical purposes.
