Connecticut marriage Records are maintained by The Vital Records Department of the Connecticut Department of Public Health. The vital records office maintains records of marriages that occurred on or after July 1, 1897. For information on marriage events that occurred prior to this date, you must contact the town where the event took place.
In Connecticut, Marriage records can be obtained from either the state vital records office, the vital records office of the city or town where the marriage took place, or where the parties of the marriage resided at the time of the ceremony. If you choose to request a marriage record from the state, please note that it usually takes six weeks for the state to comply with your request. For faster service, you may send your request to the town where the event occurred. The state of Connecticut has 169 towns. Every town maintains a record of all marriages that occur within its town. Connecticut marriage records are not considered private or confidential records. Therefore, anyone who is at least 18 years of age can request a copy of a marriage certificate. However in order to identify the proper record, the full name of the husband and wife must be provided along with the approximate date they were married and the town in which the marriage took place. For security and privacy purposes, the social security numbers will not be included on the certificate unless the person requesting the document is either the bride or groom named on the certificate.
In order to receive a marriage license, both parties must appear in person at the vital records office to apply for the license. You must apply for your marriage license at the vital records office of the town where the marriage is to take place. The couple will need to complete the marriage license application and provide identification. The couple will also be required to make a sworn statement that the information that they have provided is true.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old or have written consent from a parent, guardian, or a probate court judge. A blood test is no longer required to obtain a marriage license in the state of Connecticut.
After the marriage ceremony has taken place, the license must be submitted to the vital records of the town where the marriage took place. The license will then be registered and placed on file as a permanent record by the registrar.
Any two people may marry in the state of Connecticut as long as both parties meet he eligibility requirements. It should be noted that as of November 12, 2008, same sex marriages are legal in the state of Connecticut. The application process and the eligibility requirements for same sex marriages are identical to the application process and requirements for opposite sex marriages.

Complete the form in full, and include the full name of names of the bride and groom before the marriage, date, and town the marriage took place.

Where To Obtain a Connecticut Certified Marriage Certificate
The State of Connecticut keeps records from all counties and districts at the Connecticut Department of Public Health State Office of Vital Records. While it is possible to request marriage records from the Office of Vital Records, there is about a six-week turnaround time. Who May Obtain a Copy of a Connecticut Marriage License?
