To begin, add a public record or view a list of counties, locations and resources for South Dakota public records.
In an effort towards a more transparent government, South Dakota has opened a new web site called OPEN SD that offers South Dakota public records pertaining to government. This web site is accessible twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and it makes available over a quarter of a million pages of information to the general public.
In addition to various files for budget, revenue, and staffing, OPEN SD also offers information on payroll, job classifications, and vendor information. The online database is updated in real time whenever records change.
The location of particular public records in South Dakota depends on the type of information an individual is seeking. Vital Statistics records should be requested in person at any Register of Deeds.
Since 2006, South Dakota public records pertaining to registered sex offenders in the state are also available online through the South Dakota Sex Offender Registry web site.
